An Essene Life Mantra
Dr. Kenn McSperitt
A provocative examination of modern life, environmental decline, personal health, and humanity’s growing separation from Nature, Good People, The Norm, & Abuses challenges readers to reconsider the systems, habits, and assumptions they accept as normal. Drawing from ancient Peace teachings and Natural Law, Dr. Kenn McSperitt explores the hidden consequences of modern civilization and asks whether true progress begins by redefining what it means to live in harmony with ourselves, one another, and the Earth.

If you are like most people, you consider yourself to be a fundamentally good and decent person. Within the norms of modern society, most of us would think of ourselves as responsible, contributory citizens—good people at our core.
But this goodness is relative only to the norms of modern society.
If we analyze these norms as we have come to accept them, we discover that when held to a more universal and natural metric, our efforts toward health and Peace—both personally and globally—are not only lacking, they are often abusive. They are abuses of ourselves, abuses of one another, and abuses of Nature and Natural Law.
There is scarcely one aspect of modern life that is untouched by this reality.
The food we eat abuses the body.
The clothes we wear abuse the environment.
The products we manufacture abuse natural resources.
The transportation systems we depend upon abuse the atmosphere.
Industrial agriculture abuses soil, water, ecosystems, and biodiversity.
Chemical dependency abuses every biological system it touches.
Waste generation abuses the planet on an unprecedented scale.
The air we pollute abuses all breathing life.
Our separation from nature abuses our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health.
Even our thoughts and words frequently abuse our relationships, our integrity, and our collective humanity.
And yet most of these abuses are considered normal.
The greatest danger of any abuse is not that it exists. The greatest danger is that it becomes accepted.
Modern civilization has become exceptionally skilled at normalizing behaviors that would appear grotesque if viewed through the lens of Natural Law.
We consume foods manufactured in laboratories, stripped of nutrients, saturated with chemicals, preservatives, dyes, stabilizers, and artificial compounds. We call this convenience.
We spend our lives indoors beneath artificial lighting, breathing recycled air while rarely touching the Earth that formed us. We call this progress.
We drink water that has been processed, treated, altered, fluoridated, chlorinated, bottled, transported, and commercialized. We call this safety.
We surround ourselves with plastics, synthetics, solvents, petroleum products, and industrial compounds from birth until death. We call this modern living.
The body pays the price.
Inflammation becomes normal.
Exhaustion becomes normal.
Anxiety becomes normal.
Depression becomes normal.
Obesity becomes normal.
Chronic disease becomes normal.
Medication becomes normal.
The treatment of symptoms becomes normal.
The causes remain untouched.
The abuse continues.
The planet suffers similarly.
Forests fall for convenience.
Oceans fill with plastic.
Rivers carry industrial waste.
Topsoil disappears through unsustainable agriculture.
Entire species vanish while most of humanity remains distracted by screens, advertisements, and political theater.
The Earth absorbs the consequences of our appetite.
And still we call ourselves good.
But goodness is not measured by intention alone.
Goodness must also be measured by consequence.
The Ancient Peace Traditions taught that all actions have consequences. Nature does not care about our justifications. It responds only to what we do.
A person may sincerely believe they are healthy while abusing their body.
A society may sincerely believe it is civilized while abusing the Earth.
A government may sincerely believe it is benevolent while abusing liberty.
A religion may sincerely believe it serves God while abusing the Spirit.
Intentions do not erase outcomes.
Nature does not negotiate with belief systems.
Natural Law remains indifferent to our explanations.
The same pattern appears within our emotional and mental lives.
Modern culture rewards outrage.
It rewards division.
It rewards tribalism.
It rewards judgment.
It rewards fear.
It rewards endless comparison.
Entire industries profit from emotional instability.
News organizations profit from anxiety.
Political movements profit from outrage.
Social media profits from insecurity.
Advertising profits from dissatisfaction.
If people became truly peaceful, content, healthy, and self-aware, vast segments of modern society would lose their economic foundation.
And so we remain distracted.
We remain reactive.
We remain exhausted.
We remain divided.
We remain consumers.
Our minds become polluted just as surely as our rivers.
Our emotions become contaminated just as surely as our soil.
Our relationships become transactional.
Our communities become fragmented.
Our sense of identity becomes increasingly detached from reality.
The result is a civilization suffering from a profound spiritual illness.
We have forgotten our place within Nature.
We have mistaken dominance for wisdom.
We have mistaken consumption for prosperity.
We have mistaken stimulation for happiness.
We have mistaken information for knowledge.
We have mistaken comfort for health.
We have mistaken belief for truth.
The founders of the Ancient Peace Traditions taught that humanity's purpose is personal evolution toward Oneness with All Creation.
This requires alignment.
Alignment with the body.
Alignment with the emotions.
Alignment with the mind.
Alignment with Nature.
Alignment with the Cosmos.
Alignment with the Source.
Yet nearly every institution of modern society encourages movement in the opposite direction.
More consumption.
More accumulation.
More distraction.
More separation.
More complexity.
More dependency.
More fear.
More control.
More noise.
The solution is neither political nor technological.
It is philosophical.
It is spiritual.
It is personal.
Humanity must rediscover simplicity.
We must rediscover moderation.
We must rediscover stewardship.
We must rediscover reverence for Nature.
We must rediscover responsibility for consequence.
We must rediscover what it means to live in harmony with Natural Law.
This does not require abandoning civilization.
It requires recalibrating civilization.
Food must nourish rather than merely stimulate.
Agriculture must regenerate rather than exploit.
Technology must support life rather than replace it.
Economics must value sustainability over accumulation.
Governance must serve liberty rather than power.
Education must cultivate wisdom rather than compliance.
Spirituality must reconnect humanity with Nature rather than separate it from Nature.
Most importantly, individuals must become willing to examine their own lives honestly.
Every meaningful change begins there.
Not with governments.
Not with corporations.
Not with institutions.
With individuals.
With you.
With me.
With our willingness to acknowledge that many of the things we have accepted as normal are neither healthy nor peaceful.
The future of humanity depends upon our ability to distinguish between convenience and wisdom, between comfort and health, between belief and truth.
The Path of Peace begins when we stop asking whether our behaviors are normal and start asking whether they are natural.
Because Nature is not merely where we live.
Nature is what we are.
And until humanity remembers this simple truth, our abuses of ourselves, one another, and the planet will continue.
But if we remember, if we realign ourselves with the Natural Order, there remains hope—not only for our species, but for all life with whom we share this fragile and beautiful world.

These are the teachings of the Ancients.
Timeless in origin.
Endless in application.
